In the center of Meikakukai Aikido is the principle of Aiki. Aiki can be best described as blending (without clashing) with the attacker, then going on to dominate the assailant through the application of internal strength or Ki energy to effect techniques. Blending with an attacker's movements allows the Aiki practitioner to control the actions of the attacker with minimal effort. One applies aiki by understanding the rhythm and intent of the attacker to find the optimal position and timing to apply a counter-technique.
